Actress Odeya Rush Directs Music Video For Harry Nathan’s “Alright”

admin     Oct 12th, 2019     Reply to Article

WONDERLAND MAGAZINELady Bird actress Odeya Rush directs a music video about pastries in love, and we are so here for it.

Consider a pastry. A golden morsel of warmth. A flaky mound of happiness. There are many reasons to love the underrated food group, and now, prepare to give it a whole lot more of love with singer-songwriter Harry Nathan’s new visuals for his song “Alright”.

The Sydney-based artist has been making waves for a while now with his enchanting brand of lo-fi pop, and “Alright” is a hazy, feelgood track with shoulder-shaking 80s influences.

And the music video is truly a low-budget wonder to behold, featuring a mating dance between a chain-smoking croissant and a moustache-toting toastie, directed by none other than Nathan’s friend Lady Bird actress Odeya Rush. Obsessed.

This comes as Rush’s third self-directed music video for her friend and collaborator, musician, Harry Nathan.

We caught up with the Nathan and Rush below…

Hi both, love the concept of a love story between pastries – where did the idea for the video come from?
Odeya: We started with a simple idea to have Harry make a delicious sandwich in his kitchen. We thought it would be something super easy to make, though as the idea grew I knew we couldn’t make something that didn’t excite or challenge us. This video is the result of a DIY, super low budget attempt at a love story between a sandwich and croissant. Bon Appétit! Or in Hebrew, beteavon!

Harry, you wrote “Made this in my kitchen with my best mates” – it sounds like it was loads of fun…
Harry: The pastry love saga was a lot of fun, albeit being trickier to make than we thought, we had to learn a lot on the fly. Odeya was directing and shooting, whilst the rest of us worked the marionettes to bring the puppets to life.

Harry, what is the song about?
Harry: It’s about meeting someone and knowing you only have a short time together, so you need to make the most of it.

Odeya, is this the first time you directed something?
Odeya: Well, it’s my third time directing a video for Harry, but this has been a passion of mine since I was very young. I used to direct plays and make movies on my iPad with my younger brothers.

How did you get involved in the project?
Odeya: We’re always talking about random ideas, we’re best friends and hang out all the time so our projects tend to evolve organically.

Where did you get your inspiration from?
Odeya: I was hungry. I got inspired by those instagram food porn videos, and I love a good sandwich. Sandwiches are very friendly, and I thought it would be a good food to make a story around.

Would this be something you’d like to explore in the future?
We have so many crazy ideas. Of course we want to keep evolving and growing, we’re really inspired by a mix of different people from Wes Anderson to Tim Heidecker and hope to continue exploring our tastes and building this universe.

What’s next for you both? What are you excited for?
We’re working on a new video that’s in the same universe but also completely different to anything you’ve seen from us. Not promising anything, but there might be a goat in a vest…

Watch “Alright” below…

Harry Nathan Heads to Outer Space In Odeya Rush-Directed ‘Fool for Your Love’: Video Premiere

admin     May 28th, 2019     Reply to Article

BILLBOARD.COM – How many times have we made fools of ourselves vying for someone’s affection? Harry Nathan set out to answer this question with a wavy new single named “Fool For Your Love.” Released May 3, the song sees the dream-pop savant crafting an ethereal, trumpet-laden soundscape lush with longing. The video for the minimalist song is directed by his best friend, 22-year-old Israeli actress Odeya Rush. The pair have been partners in collaboration since the Dumplin’ star, who’s also appeared in Greta Gertwig’s Lady Bird and has acted alongside Meryl Streep and Larry David in the past, directed Nathan’s video for piano-driven surf pop track “Rooftops” last year.

In the sweet new animated video for “Fool For Your Love,” premiering exclusively on Billboard, Rush and Nathan tell the tale of the imaginary outer space trek of a young boy named Scooter. Escaping into fantasy to get away from the expectations of his dad, the whimsical clip sees our young hero venture through a textured landscape replete with stardust, aliens and omelets. As our young hero seeks interstellar affections, he realizes the love he had was in front of him all along — be it romantic or familial.

Billboard caught up with Rush and Nathan to talk about the making of “Fool For Your Love,” their past and future collaborations, and what’s coming down the pipeline for the young creatives. One thing’s for sure: not even the depths of space are out of reach.

‘Lady Bird’ Actress Odeya Rush Talks ‘Dear Dictator’ And Judaism

admin     Mar 18th, 2018     Comments Off on ‘Lady Bird’ Actress Odeya Rush Talks ‘Dear Dictator’ And Judaism

NOWTHISNEWSThis Israeli-born actress is making waves in Hollywood. Growing up, Odeya Rush struggled to fit in when she moved to Alabama at age 9, not knowing any English.

She explained, “I wanted to be Stephanie or something more American. I was in Alabama in kind of a conservative town, coming from Israel which is very free-spirited. And I just wanted to fit in and have friends and I wanted to understand what they were saying I wanted to know more about Football or barbeques.”

But she was able to draw on being different for the role of “Tatiana” in “Dear Dictator.” The film is a satirical comedy about a rebellious teen who forms an unlikely friendship with a dictator, played by Michael Caine.

“I think when you are in high school your hormones are everywhere and you fight with your mom a lot and your dad and your brothers and everyone. You think you’re right all the time. I was a balance of a goody two shoes and a rebel. I don’t need to prove I was a rebel and [Tatiana] wants to show everyone as soon as she meets them, ‘I’m hardcore. I don’t care when you think.’”

She also makes sure that the haters never steal her smile and always takes time to laugh.
